**Tips**

* By default, the Trace By Lot option will be set to Yes and cannot be edited.
* The Initial Number cannot be edited if the Automatic option is set to No or if it has already been utilized in the system.
  {% endhint %}

## Number Configuration

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Notes**

* Lot Number Configuration shows the same behaviours as Serial Number Configuration.
* The lot number configuration has a maximum of 130 characters and for the serial number configuration 180 characters.
* In a single product, you can choose to have either a lot configuration, a serial configuration, or both.
  {% endhint %}

To create a Serial Number Configuration, set **Trace By Serial** to **Yes**. This enables the **Automatic Serial Number** option, which must also be set to **Yes**, and the Serial Number Configuration will appear.
